After the demise of Amir Chand, Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore was the new occupant of the Haveli. It was Shakti Singh, who named the Haveli, “Bagore ki Haveli”, which in Hindi means ‘mansion of Bagore’. The Haveli during that time belonged to the State of Mewar.
Over centuries, Bagore ki Haveli had been a centre of attraction for tourists from all over the globe. However, after independence, that Bagore ki Haveli, Udaipur was almost left unattended. It was only in 1986, when it housed the West Zone Cultural centre, that Bagore ki Haveli started regaining its somewhat lost glory.
Description
Bagore ki Haveli, Udaipur stands at Gangori Ghat, overlooking Lake Pichola. The Haveli consists of more than a hundred rooms each of which exhibits exquisite pieces of costumes as well as modern art of that era.
The palace has over hundred rooms and some very interesting display of costumes and modern art. The interiors of the Haveli are covered with mirrors, which speaks volumes about the pomp and show that the rulers of those days lived in. There are numerous other samples of fine glasswork like a pair of peacocks that had been made from colored glasses.
