City Palace Museum

City Palace Museum UdaipurIntroduction:
The beautiful City Palace Museum,Udaipur is also known as 'Pratap Museum'. The name Pratap Museum was given because the museum holds dear the armour of the brave and gallant Maharana Pratap and also possesses the drums and bugles of the great ruler Rana Sanga. Rana Sanga was a famous ruler of Mewar.

The main door of City Palace Museum is called 'Ganesh Deori', which means 'doors of Ganesh'. After entering this door people will come across a huge courtyard, which is knows as 'Rajya Angan'. The Rayja Angan was the famous place where a sage had asked Maharana Udai Singh to build a city.

The rooms of the City Palace Museum are beautifully decorated and is undoubtedly a feast for the eyes. The rooms are beautified with excellent paintings and mirror tiles.

History:
'Rajya Angan' is the oldest part of the City Palace Museum which was built by Maharana Udai Singh in the 16th century. The exact year when the Royal Courtyard was built was 1571. The main portions of the City Palace Museum including all its 'Mahals' is now preserved as a Museum.

Description:
All the rooms in City Palace Museum,Udaipur are beautifully ornamented and decorated. In one of the rooms called the Ruby Palace or Manak Mahal, there is an awesome collection of glass and mirror work. Then there is the Moti Mahal, also named as the Pearl Palace, which showcases a wonderful display of mirror work. The Krisna Vilas with it's exhibit of a rich collection of miniature paintings is another treat for the eyes. Not to forget another eye catcher, the Chini Mahal which is decorated with ornamental tiles all over the room.

A central garden named as the 'Bari Mahal' in City Palace Museum, Rajasthan offers the visitors with an excellent view of the city. Symbolizing the sun dynasty to which the Mewar dynasty belonged, is the beautiful Surya Chopar or the Sun Square which depicts a huge ornamental sun. Leading to an attractive white pavilion called the Lakshmi Chowk, is the Zenana Mahal. The Zenana Mahal, also called the Ladies Chamber contains some of the most brilliant paintings of all times.

There is a huge collection of sculptures, coins, portraits, wall paintings and inscriptions in the City Palace Museum in Udaipur,India. The museum is proud to be the owner of a turban of Khurram. Khurram is better known as Emperor Shah Jahan. The significance of the turban is that it shows the friendship that existed between Shah Jahan and Maharana Khazan Singh.
