Ayodhya situated on the banks of River Saryu in Uttar Pradesh has seen the advent and fall of many an empire. It was the reigning seat of the Suryavanshi clan and records of it could be found in Ramayana, Atharvaveda and many texts of Buddhism and Jainism. An ancient document records this as a city built by the Gods and enjoys the same standard of prosperity as in paradise. Though it earns much of its claim to fame for being the birthplace of Lord Rama, it is also important to the Jains as five of their tirthankaras were born here. Some of the important tourist destinations here are The Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Swarg Dwar, Mani Parvat and Surgiv Parvat, Nageshwarnath Temple, etc. Pilgrims and leisure tourists visit Ayodhya at all points of the year but especially the city is seen to swarm with pilgrims during Ram nawami. To get the true essence of the city go out Shopping in Ayodhya.
