Located at a distance of around 26 miles west of the city of Agra, one of the most prominent centers of the Mughal reign, Fatehpur Sikri, even today plays an extremely important role amongst the various Cities in Uttar Pradesh in India. Once the political capital of the Mughal dynasty during the rule of Emperor Akbar and a flourishing city till the year 1585, when it was abandoned, due to a cause, which can be today guessed to be a severe water scarcity, the entirety of the city of Fatehpur Sikri is a dream constructed in red sandstone.
It is said that one of the greatest disappoints of Emperor Akbar was the fact that he was without an heir. Once, in order to seek blessings to remedy the situation, the emperor traveled to the abode of the revered saint Sheik Salim Chisti, the renowned Sufi saint who blessed him with a son, who was to be later known as Jahangir.
