Wild Life Reserves in Nanda Devi National Park:
Of the 114 species of birds that generally flocks here from May to June, mention may be made of Orange Flanked Bush, Yellow Bellied Fantail Flycatcher and Crested Black Tit etc. The aroma of the flowers draws numerous butterflies and as many as 28 varieties of butterflies have been discovered so far. Nanda Devi National Park houses 6 nationally endangered species like Blue Sheep, Mush Deer, Himalayan Tahr and Serow.
White, Yellow and Brown Leopards are available in plenty but scarcely noticed. Among the Fir, Birch and Rhododendron bushes you may sometimes get across one or two such leopards, luckily. Alpine and Juniper Shrubs along with grasses, lichens forms the collective floral varieties here. Nanda Devi National Park consists of 17 rare floral species and 312 ordinary ones.
History of Nanda Devi National Park:
The long forbidden land in Uttaranchal was first discovered by W.W Garden in 1883. The visit of Tilamen and N.E Odell created public awareness about the existence of this natural home for flora and fauna after which it became a reputed haunt for hunters and nature lovers alike. It was given the status of Biosphere Reserve in 1982 and later declared as a Heritage site by UNESCO.
Best Time for Visit at Nanda Devi National Park:
Since this region receives a high precipitation from June to August, the best time to visit here is from April to October. Most part of Nanda Devi National Park remains under snow during winter since it is the second highest peak in India. Delhi is the best place from where you can visit here.
