Weekend getaways from Rajasthan within 300 kms

One of the oldest cities in the world, Delhi is the national capital and one of the most visited places in the country. It is around 265 km by road from Jaipur and a prominent weekend getaway. New Delhi is dotted with a number of historical attractions, places of amusement, hotels and restaurants making it a heaven for tourists. Delhi is also a major gateway for international visitors who travel from here to other parts of Rajasthan.

Agra is a famed city known for its Mughal buildings and gardens. It is around 200 km drive from New Delhi and 234 km from Jaipur city. Agra is worth visiting during a weekend as there are three World Heritage Sites situated here besides several other mosques and museums from the days of Mughal glory. The Mughal rule lasted from 1526-1658 and between these years, they built some of the beautiful buildings, the Taj Mahal being the most noted one.

Fatehpur Sikri was the erstwhile Mughal capital built by Emperor Akbar. Few other places to explore in Agra include Ram Bagh gardens, Kailash temple, Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb and the Mughal Heritage Walk. Situated on the banks of Yamuna is the holy city of Mathura, considered a revered site among the Hindus. It is the place of birth or janma bhoomi of Lord Krishna. This town is around 291 km from Jaipur and 145 km drive from Delhi and visited by tourists and pilgrims during the weekends. The tranquility and peacefulness is a major draw as well.
What to see in Mathura The Keshav Dev Temple is an underground prison cell that is regarded as the birthplace of Krishna. Other legendary sites in Mathura that are worth visiting are Jai Gurudev Ashram, the Mathura Museum, Vishram Ghat, Rangeshwar Mahadev Temple and the Dwarikadheesh Temple.

The twin-city of Mathura, Vrindavan is a drive of just 11 km from Mathura town. It is also a revered place as Lord Krishna lived here during his youth. The town presently has many shrines and sites where Lord Krishna is believed to have played with his childhood mates. Vrindavan has a spiritual aura and is popular among the Vaishnavites.
What to see at Vrindavan Govinda Deo Temple is the oldest surviving Hindu shrines here and was constructed in 1590. Other temples in the region are Madan Mohan Temple, Banke Bihari Temple, Sri Radha Raman Mandir and Rangaji Temple.

Ahmedabad is Gujarat's commercial capital and Mount Abu is its closest hill station. There are honeymoon couples as well as single travelers going from Mount Abu region to Ahmedabad for weekend breaks especially during the winter months. Similarly, tourists from Ahmedabad also visit Mount Abu in Rajasthan. Ahmedabad shot to fame with the establishment of the Sabarmati Ashram by Mahatma Gandhi in the pre-independence era. He started his Dandi March from here.
What to see in Ahmedabad The Gandhi Ashram, the former residence of Mahatma Gandhi is the main attraction. This is situated on the banks of Sabarmati River and is a picturesque place of visit. Sidi Sayed Mosque, the Bhadra Fort, Amar Dham, and the Kankaria Lake are other popular attractions.

Bundi is a historical place of visit in Rajasthan that is around 210 km from the capital city of Jaipur. It is replete with several forts, palaces, lakes and havelis of the bygone era. It is well accessed from Kota that is 35 km away.
