Kovalam beach is located at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. It is also regarded as the top most beach of Kerala in popularity stakes. It is 16 kilometers away from Trivandrum city. The distance, in terms of time is an hour.
Kovalam used to be a small village along the coast of Kerala before its beaches were found out and it gained prominence as a tourist destination. The coconut trees give Kovalam beach its excellent scenic splendor.

People may also take train and flights from Thiruvananthapuram as well. The airport at Thiruvananthapuram is 10 kilometers away. The Trivandrum rail station is 16 kilometers away.
There are a couple of tourist attractions in Kovalam beach like the Vizhinjam mosque for example. The visitors can also watch performances of Kathakali, the local dance form. There are a number of areas from where the visitors may eat but the sea food fare available at the restaurants by the beach is highly recommendable. Lobsters are high in demand.

The beaches of Kovalam could be distinguished into three parts. There is the Lighthouse beach, which is the most famous of all these parts. It is right at the south. The middle beach is known as Hawah. This plays the role of a base for the fishermen to operate from. The beach at north is known as Samudra.
