Introduction

Safdarjung's Tomb, a beautiful mausoleum built in marble is located in the Lodi road in the capital city of Delhi. Built in 1754, this beautiful monument is counted as a major heritage and historic sites in India. You can find the Safdarjung's Tomb at the junction of the Safdarjung Road and Aurobindo Marg. It has a great historical significance and clearly depicts the architectural style of the late Mughal period. At the top storey of the Safdarjung's Tomb in Delhi is located the Archaeological Survey of India.

The structure was built for the prime minister of Muhammad Shah, Safdarjung. It was built by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah. The building is really very impressive and the central dome of the tomb will surely catch your attention. There are four buildings and each of them are led with four water canals. The entrance way to the Safdarjung's Tomb is magnificent and grand. You will be taken inside within three pavilions with living quarters.

Just at the frontage of the Safdarjung's Tomb, there is a beautiful Mughal garden which is properly maintained. It is made keeping in mind the Mughal garden pattern. Also known as Charbagh, this tomb has made way through a beautifully decorated garden. It spread for more than 300 square meters. In the four corners of the tomb, you will find four octagonal towers. This beautiful structure was constructed in the Humayun's Tomb pattern.

This historic monument remains open for all days from sunrise to sunset for the public. You need to pay a minimal entry fee to be mesmerized by the architectural beauty. If you want to capture the beauty of this monument then you have to pay for the photography charges. To get to this Safdarjung's Tomb, you can take local buses and cars from any part of the city. You can also hire an auto rickshaw to reach this historical site. The famous Connaught Place is only 20 minutes from Safdarjung's Tomb in Delhi. The Nizamuddin Railway is the nearest railway station to this tomb and Indira Gandhi International Airport is the closest.

Close to the Safdarjung's Tomb, you can visit the crafts village at Dilli Haat, monuments like Chaunsath Khamba, India Gate tombs and green lawns at Lodi Gardens.
