Introduction

Lotus Temple is a brilliant piece of architecture that is located in the capital city of Delhi. You can site this temple at Mandir Marg in South Delhi and is largely frequented by travelers from all parts of the world every year. It is also known as the Bahai House of Worship and is built of marble, dolomite, cement and sand. Lotus Temple is so named because of the lotus like structure of the temple. It was built in the 20th century and enthralled all tourists since its opening.

Lotus Temple in Delhi was found by the believers of the Bahai Faith, which was founded by Baha'ullah. This amazing piece of edifice is shaped like a half opened lotus flower built of sparkling white marble stone. Since its inception, the Lotus Temple, Delhi has drawn millions of tourists with its sheers beauty and architectural wonder. It has been recorded that is one of the most visited monuments in India.

The surrounding of the place is very pleasing and has peaceful and serene setting. You can have perfect peace of mind during your visit to this Lotus Temple. The architecture shows expertise of both the conventional and modern style. It was built by a renowned Canadian architect named Fariborz Sahba. It took ten long years for planning the structure of the temple and implementing it. After that a marvel has been produced. The structure of the petals of the lotus is made of steel and is galvanized to guard it against rusting. The structure of the Lotus Temple reminds one of the Sydney Opera House.

The prayer sessions are arranged four times in a day. People of all faith can enter the temple and pay their worship. The prayer sessions are conducted in the following time of the day, which are fixed:

  • 10:00AM to 10:15AM
  • 12:00PM to 12:15PM
  • 3:00PM to 3:15 PM
  • 5:00 PM to 5:15 PM

Exhibitions are also held within the temple campus. It exhibits the various principles and aspects of the Bahai faith. Various photography are also put up for the visitors to see. A 30 minute movie is also shown to let you know about the religion at the information center.

You do not need to pay any entry fee to get in to this temple. During summer, you can enter the Lotus Temple between 9:00AM to 7:00 PM and during winter the temple allows visitors between 9:30AM to 5:30PM. It is to be kept in mind that the temple remains closed on all Mondays. You need to open your footwear before entering the temple campus. Absolute silence is to be maintained within the temple.
