One of the most prominent pilgrimage and religious sites of India is the Vaishno Devi. Pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. The journey to this shrine is enchanting as you will have to walk amidst the breathtaking scenic beauty. The presiding deity that is worshipped in this temple is Vaishno Devi. Located in Jammu and Kashmir, this holist Hindu temple is entirely dedicated to Shakti.
Perched atop the hill of Vaishno Devi, this temple is near the town in Katra. Here, Goddess is worshipped in the name of Mata Rani or Vasihnavi. This major Hindu pilgrim spot is overflowed by pilgrims from all over the world. The strenuous journey along the mountain path comes to an end at the cave, where it is said that the Goddess merge with her human form. The shrine of Vaishno Devi is the oldest in India. To seek blessing for the goddess, pilgrims climb the steep mountains paths. It is one of the most honored places of worship in Northern India.
The cave can be sited at the great Trikuta Mountain, located at the distance of about 61 kilometers from Jammu. During the winters, the path leading to the temple remains covered with ice. Pilgrims make great effort to reach the temple and offer their devotion. You can visit the shrine al through the year. But the journey becomes more difficult during the winters.
You can reach Vaisho Devi temple by almost all modes of transport. If you are coming by air, you can get down at the Jammu airport. From the airport, Katra is only 48 kilometers away. Jammu railway station is the nearest one and railways connect this plsce to other major cities like Mumbai, Delhi Kolkata and Chennai. There is a huge bus terminus in Jammu as well. From Jammu, buses leave for Katra every ten minutes.
There are various accommodation units, where the tourists can board. In Jammu, you can stay at Yatri Niwas or any other private hotels. Yatri Niwas are also available at Katra, which are managed by the Shrine Board.
