Glasgow Commonwealth Games

In July 2014, Glasgow, Scotland, will host the 20th installment of Commonwealth Games. The competition will begin on 23rd July, 2013 and span over 11 days in Glasgow, Scotland. London has previously hosted the 1970 and 9186 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be the biggest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland. It will attract some of the world’s top athletes; throw physical and mental challenge towards them and keep us all hooked for next 11 days. If news sources are to be believed, Glasgow already has 70 percent of the planned venues in place. Most of the venues are located in proximity of the Athletes’ Village. The only sporting events to be held outside the Greater Glasgow region will be the Diving and Full Bore Shooting events.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014

Glasgow is the 3rd largest city in the United Kingdom and has done heavy investments in its road infrastructure such as arterial roads and motorways. For Commonwealth Games 2014, the city has invested more than 2 billion pounds to enhance transport system including completion of major motorway links such as the M74 and East End Regeneration Route and refurbishment of Clyde Fastlink project and Dalmarnock Railway Station.


Transport is one of the major concerns for 2014 Commonwealth Games. Each venue in the Glasgow region will be served by the extensive railway and subway network such as Central Argyle Line and Hampden Park.


To meet the energy and power requirements for Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014, an energy centre has been built to provide power to 700 homes at the Glasgow 2014 Athletes’ Village.
