Flip back the pages of Rajasthan’s Glorious History

Rajasthan is best known for housing some of the finest examples of architecture. Forts, palaces and havelis form the star attractions of the state. All these monuments date back to the Rajput era when royal kings and queens used to rule over the state. Today, these monuments stand as a testimony of that era.

All the historic monuments of the state feature a mix of different architectural styles like Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture. They offer an opportunity to flip back the pages of Rajasthan’s history which speaks much about its rich culture and heritage. The interiors of these monuments display beautiful paintings, mirror work, portraits, carvings and statues.

Some popular historic monuments of Rajasthan are City Palace (Jaipur), Hawa Mahal (Jaipur), Lake Palace (Udaipur), Umaid Bhawan (Jodhpur) and Manak Chowk (Jaisalmer).

Go for a Camel Safari in Thar Desert

Camel Safari in Thar Desert is one of the most entertaining activities that you can enjoy in this lifetime. If you wish to enjoy the true colors of Rajasthan state, then a camel safari is the best option. As you sit on that saddle just atop its hump, explore the rolling sand dunes and those small villages coming on the way, making you see the culture of desert people.

Camel safari is the best way to have a look at the rural side of Rajasthan. En-route, you get to enjoy a number of things like the breathtaking sunset, climbing up the sand dunes and more. You can also get to see women in colorful clothes and ethnic jewelry carrying water pots in their heads.

Enjoy an Elephant ride at Amer Fort

Located 12 km from Jaipur, the Amber fort is one of the most popular hilltop forts in India. Built back in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh, Amber fort features a blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles.

One of the most popular activities in Jaipur is an elephant ride to the Amer fort. This ride is entertaining and royal at the same time. It makes you enjoy an experience like the royalty of Rajasthan. During those times, 100 elephants used to ride the kings and queens to the fort. All the elephants are beautifully decorated with flowers and colored powders.

Elephant rides to the fort begin early in the morning and they finish up by afternoon. All the elephants are only allowed only three rides along with a rest period.

Explore Rajasthan’s Folk art and Culture

Different regions of Rajasthan have their own form of dance which speaks of the state’s art and culture in a different way. There are different tribal groups which have unique dance forms. Some popular dance forms of the state include Ghoomer, Chari, Drum Dance, Gair, Fire Dance, Kachhi Ghodi, Kathputli etc.

Along with dance, music also forms an integral part of Rajasthan’s culture. Music shows the different aspects of Rajasthan’s culture. Rajasthani music tells much about the state’s history. Traditional musical instruments of the state include chang, dholak, ektara, matas, nagada, kamayacha, Sarangi and sitar.

Coming to Rajasthan’s art, paintings play a key role.  Miniature paintings form the most common form of painting in the state. Murals and miniatures are at main focus of the state’s art as they flourished during the 16th and 18th century.

These paintings use strong colors that rightly reflect Rajput culture. The subjects of the paintings are generally related to religion or royal lifestyle. Most of them feature the theme of Krishna Leela and other Hindu religious subjects.

Savor the Delicious Rajasthani Cuisine

Like festivals, culture, attractions, every region of Rajasthan also has its own separate specialty when it comes to traditional dishes. Because of the scarcity of water in the state, most dishes remain dry or at times, some milk is used to add to the flavor.

The traditional cuisine of Rajasthan takes influence from Mughal and European cultures and cuisines, which is why most of the dishes remain spicy. However, they are extremely delicious and offer a unique blend of flavors with every bite.

Some of the traditional items from the Rajasthani cuisine include Daal baati Churma, bail-gatte, rabdi, bajre ki roti (millet bread) and lahsun ki chutney, mawa Kachori, sohan halwa, mawa and Malpuas.

Be a part of Rajasthan’s fairs and festivals

The colorful land of Rajasthan plays host to a number fairs and festivals throughout the year. The fairs and festivals celebrated in the state offer a great opportunity to the travelers to have a look into its culture, art and history.
