How to reach Darjeeling

Darjeeling is set in the northern area of the state of West Bengal. The destination opens arms to people from all over the world. Reach by Air

The nearest airport to Darjeeling is Bagdogra Airport. The Bagdogra international airport (IXB) has regular domestic flight connection with limited international flights. Major flights in Darjeeling are from Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati while internationally from Bangkok, Bhutan and Nepal. From the airport, the town lies around 95 km away. Hire taxis to reach to Darjeeling though the scenic route through the mountains.

Reach by Train

Darjeeling is connected to Jalpaiguri railway station. The rail head has frequent train connections with major parts of the country including Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar and Kochi.

In addition, of the normal train route, there is the scenic Darjeeling Toy Train, which is named among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The icon of heritage railways in India, the steam engine run train ascends up to the hill town of Darjeeling through the steep gradient of the mountains from New Jalpaiguri. It takes a little over 7 hours to complete the one-way journey with stops at the many hill towns that fall on the route. The view of the Darjeeling tea gardens are especially a visual treat on the journey as are the extraordinary tunnels and bridges which are a feta of engineering even in the olden days.

If for any reason it’s not possible to ride the Toy Train, hire private cabs available outside the station to get to Darjeeling.

Reach by Road

Scenic roads lead to the beautiful hill town of Darjeeling. It is well connected to major cities such as Siliguri, Gangtok, Kolkata and Kalimpong via road. From the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or the Bagdogra Airport, there are actually several roads to reach Darjeeling. The Hill Cart Road (NH-55) is the main route to the hill town from the lower plains.

By Cab / Car

The tourist haven of Darjeeling does not lack options to get tourists to their favorite holiday getaway. Cab services are easily available for the town from airport or the railway station to reach darjeeling. You can hire your personal cab or get shared taxis. The drive by personal vehicle is absolutely amazing as the view makes your mood for the exciting vacation.
