They lay in the nature's lap caught in deep slumber. Mother earth does not teach the art of glittering to these metals. A rock is ignorant of its abilities of becoming a diamond. Only a goldsmith knows the secret process of baptizing a tarnished metal to precious gold and similarly, a gem cutter possesses the skill of shaping a rock to an exquisite diamond. We arrive at one of the workshops and witness the core process involved in the making of precious and beautiful Rajasthani Jewellery.
DESIGNING
The process begins with an idea which is then drawn with extreme precision and takes shape of the most distinctive jewel. The creative and the design head, the designers come from varied backgrounds such as painting, applied arts, sculpture, archeology and also trained designers. They work as a team, giving each collection different and individual characteristics.
GEM CUTTING
The process of cutting and polishing gems is called gem cutting or lapidary. Various styles of gem cutting like brilliant cut, single cut, old cut, rose cut, princess cut, beads, cabochons, carving, drops, etc. are achieved by three series of operations: splitting (or cleaving), cutting and polishing.
METAL FRAMING
Now shape is given to nature’s extraordinary materials, extracted from the deepest recesses of the earth to create unique pieces that are beyond ones imagination. Molten pure metal is amalgamated with appropriate alloys and shaped into flat or round wires as required. Finally, a careful inspection completes the process that began with pure 24 Karat gold and finished with a truly unique and beautiful handcrafted ornament.
