Goa is not only popular for its churches and beaches but also has a number of other tourist attractions that attract an amazing number of tourists from all over the world. One of such popular tourist attraction of Goa is Abyss Marine Aquarium. It is a marine aquarium known as ‘Abyss- The Underworld’ is equally popular amidst tourists and locals. Around 18 km from Panjim, this huge aquarium complex is placed on the Verna-Goa National Highway. Abyss houses a vast variety of fishes- around 60 species, other marine life and a model of a fisherman along with his family. It is first of kind of an aquarium in Goa and is one of the most famous tourist attractions here. It boasts of being one of India’s most maintained aquariums. Along with the main aquarium area, there are small aquariums also for having an even better view of the fishes including the rare ones. Abyss Marine Aquarium is home to exotic marine life including starfish, sea cucumber, lion fish, lobsters, catfish, finger star, parrotfish and more. Some of these water animals have been brought in from different parts of the world including Japan, Pakistan, China, Arabian Sea, Australia, Indonesia and Lakshadweep Islands. Scientific and technical equipments are used to manage the marine life that is kept in a natural environment.
