Raj Bhavan is a residential palace and fort set apart from the carefree environment of Goa. Settled in Dona Paula, a village in the suburbs of Panaji, this tourist spot has been the residence of the Governor of Goa. Raj Bhavan was raised between the 16th and 17th century, a time which represented Portuguese India. Stretching over 88 acres, the estate has been formerly known as “Palacio do Cabo” and sits facing the Arabian Sea.
Further, art connoisseurs would love to visit the Raj Bhavan also known as Cabo Palace as it is one of the best examples of Portuguese-Goan architecture. The Chinese porcelain, silver, wooden furniture, and Bohemian chandeliers housed in the estate would take one back to the era. Moreover, it is also said that Raj Bhavan is one of the finest residences of Indian Governors, and hence a popular tourist attraction in Goa.
Going back in time, it is said that Raj Bhavan was built as a fortification to guard the harbor of Goa. Along with that a fort, church and convent were built which are now known as Fort Aguada and Our Lady of the Cape Church. The two-story structure is home to a number of suites and attractions like The Estate, The Estate Beach, The Jetty, The Canon Point, Our Lady of the Cape Church and Grotto. Doors to all these landmarks were opened recently by the Government of India for the general public.
