About Mount Batur

Did you know? In 2012, UNESCO announced Mount Batur Caldera as a part of their Global Geoparks Network program to preserve and protect the world’s important geological peaks.

After a huge volcanic eruption around 28,000 years old in the ocean, Mount Batur was formed alongside a caldera on its top. The last eruption occurred in 2000.
Another important thing to note is that the last eruption that happened in 1968 created a lava field which you can see from Kintamani villagers near Mount Batur.

The region’s fertility around the peak comes from Lake Batur, also a must-see. It produces fruits and vegetables and is also Bali’s largest bamboo producer.

The trek takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach Ubud to Mount Batur by road, and then you have to hike up the mountain. And if you are coming from Amed to Mount Batur, it will take about 2 hours to drive to the mountain.

Mount Batur trek is best for beginners, and intermediate trekkers as the distance covered is 6 km, which takes about 2 hours. Trek usually starts 2-3 hours before sunrise, so you must wake up early, around 1.30-2 am, to witness the glorious sunrise.
