Travel back in time at one of the most renowned attractions of Rome, the Colosseum 7 wonders of the world. Located in the heart of Rome, Colosseum Italy is an iconic structure and the biggest amphitheater ever built in the world. This is a reason why 6 million are observed at this site every year.
The Colosseum height of 157 feet or 48 meters (about the height of a 12-storey building), leaves tourists fascinated. Whether it is ruined today due to fire, earthquakes, and vandalism, it still has that glory.
One of the Colosseum facts is that it is linked with the Roman Catholic Church. Thus, on Good Friday every year, thousands of people join the "Way of Cross" procession that commences around the site with the Pope leading it with a torch.
The Colosseum also represents the international campaign against capital punishment. As a gesture against death sentences given here in ancient times, the local authority changes the night illumination color from white to golden.

About Colosseum
Emperor Titus inaugurated this amphitheater in AD 80 when it was called Flavian Amphitheater (as Titus belonged to the Flavian dynasty). Later, the name was changed after the huge Colossus of Nero which stood near it.
Talking about the architecture, the Colosseum inside and outside looks spectacular even after it was destroyed and vandalized. It is a freestanding building in an elliptical shape. Spread across 24,000 square meters or 6 acres, Colosseum is truly a fascinating attraction you cannot skip in Rome.
Spend a day at the Colosseum and visit the central arena, which is oval and has a 5 meters wall encircling it from which seating arises in tiers. It also has a wooden floor with sand. Underneath the floor, there’s a series of tunnels that were used for housing animals and slaves.
In addition, there are 3 seating tiers with arched entrances from 8 sides. Plus, all four sides have four axials and the one at the main entrance is called the Arch of Constantine.
Each storey of the Colosseum contains differently styled columns in Doric style at the bottom. In the middle and the top, it has Ionic and Corinthian respectively.
