Jammu is the transit point for all major sight seeing in Jammu and Kashmir. Domestic as well as international tourists make Jammu their base, before they move on to higher altitudes. Excursions from Jammu is easy and advisable, as it is well connected to the different spots in Jammu and Kashmir.
The national highway in Jammu comes to good use while commuting to these spots. Trips to Srinagar, Gul marg, Vaishno Devi and Leh and Ladakh, can be arranged from Jammu. The efficient bus services and hired taxis are available at any point of the day.
Before moving on to higher altitudes, take a leisurely stroll in and around Jammu. The large number of abandoned forts and temples are reminiscent of its rich historical past. Ranbir canal, Bahu fort, Rani Charak Mahal, Amar Mahal Palace Museum, can all be covered in four to five hours, since they lie in close proximity to each other. In the other half of the day, you can visit some of the temples that Jammu is famous for. The Mansar wildlife sanctuary is also a good bet.
