Situated at about 1250 meters above sea level between the Durpin and the Deolo Hill, Kalimpong is known for its green meadows, undulating valleys, and dense virgin forests. However, the majestic Khangchendzonga is a magnificent backdrop that will make you fall in love with this place. March to Mid-June and Mid September to December are the best seasons for travelers to visit Kalimpong. It is recommended to take light woolen and tropical clothes with you if you stay in the summer months. But for winter, make sure to take heavy woolen garments. Kalimpong is considered the best ecological destination in India. It thrives in a wide range of flora and fauna. Some of the most commonly found floras in Kalimpong are acacia, orchids, cinnamon, ficus, bamboo, cacti, and cardamom. In addition, evergreen alpine vegetation and pine trees are widely found. Here, you can find seven different rhododendron species and three hundred orchids species. In addition, the hillsides are dotted with sunflowers and poinsettia. Four sixty nurseries have blooming flowers of various types.

The faunas, largely found in Kalimpong, are Red Panda, Asiatic black bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Tahr, Siberian Weasel, barking deer, Clouded Leopard, goral, gaur, and pangolin. In addition, some of the significant birds found here are Monal pheasant, hornbills, Eurasian Sparrowhawks, Black Baza, Besra, Himalayan Griffon Vulture, and the Kalij Pheasant.
