One of the main tourist attractions of Bangalore, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is one of the endeavors of National Council of Science Museum, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Important industrialists decided to establish an industrial museum during the decade of 60s. This mean Visvesvaraya Industrial Museum society came into being. Spread in an area of 40,000 square feet, the building was established in Cubbon Park with financial assistance from industrialists, Indian Government, and State government of Karnataka. Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum was inaugurated by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 11th November, 1962. The first gallery was on ‘Electro Technic’ that was opened to the public on 27th July, 1965. Named after M. Visveswaraya, the Dewan of Mysore, the museum has 5 galleries- Popular Science Gallery, Kimbe Paper Metals Gallery, Children’s Science Gallery, Electronic Technology Gallery and Engine Hall Gallery. If you have an interest in machinery and working of different types of machines, this is the place to be. Some of the most amazing displays at the museum include steam engine, airplane, motor power, electronic exhibits, properties and uses of metal and wood, science exhibits, more. A mobile science exhibition is one of the main attractions here, highlighting the contribution of technology and science in the fields of industrial development as well as human welfare. Seminars, demonstrations and film shows on scientific subjects are organized from time to time.
