One of the crowd-pulling pooram festivals, the Uthralikavu Pooram festival, is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Every year, on the second Tuesday of the Malayalam month of Kumbham, the Pooram is held (which usually falls after mid-February). The celebration is well known for its continuous, day-and-night giant parade. The eight-day celebrations are known for their unique ceremonies and religious rites.

The evenings are eventful with rituals and folk art performances in the temple courtyard in the glow of the monumental brass traditional temple lamps, keeping their flame alive right into the dawn. On the concluding day is the spectacular all-night pooram pageant, the festival’s highlight.
