In fact the Women Golf Association of India was founded primarily with the aim to provide empowerment to the Indian women belonging to weaker section of society through sports. With concrete plans the association moved ahead and took effective steps in organizing professional tours which finally provided the women golfers to compete at national as well as international platforms and carve a niche for themselves in the field of sports. In this endeavor the association received great help from sponsors like DLF and others. The DLF Women’s Professional Golf Tour is being conducted under the guidance of Women's Golf Association of India and the Indian Golf Union. Women’s golf events in India now draws nearly rupees 2 crore in prize money from the various events.
DLF Women's Professional Golf Tour
The beginning event of the Six Leg DLF Professional Golf Tour for Women was held at Lado Sarai Golf Club in Delhi, India. The remaining five events were organized on the most difficult and famous golf courses of the different cities in India including Pune, Gurgaon and Noida. The scheduled venue for the last event of the DLF Women's Professional Golf Tour in India was DLF Golf & Country Club.
The DLF Women's Professional Golf Tour has proved to be a big support for the women golf players in India. It is the result of this event that today several Indian names of women golfers appear in the professional ranking. Some of the names that shine bright and enjoy rankings in the field of Golf are Anjali Chopra, Parnita Grewal, Nitika Jadeja, Sanam Merchant, Pragya Mishra, Shalini Malik, Nonita Lall Qureshi, Seema Sobti, Sanniya Sharma, Urvashi Sodhi and Nalini Singh. In fact drawing inspiration from the senior women players, there are many young players and amateurs also who are keen on joining the league.
