Tata Open is held each year under the support of PGTI. The tournament first started in 2002 and the sixth edition of the Tata Open Golf Tournament was held at the beginning of 2008. It was a tournament for according to the tournament’s slogan- “Men of Steel”. The Tata Open Golf Tournament this year has attracted a large number of professional Indian Golfers such as Shamim Khan, Ashok Kumar, Digvijay Singh, Mukesh Kumar, SSP Chowrasia, Rahul Ganapathy, and Gaganjeet Bhullar. Defending Champion SSP Chowrasia who has won Tata Open on the Beldih and Gulmuri courses in the year 2003, 2005, and 2006 was one of the top favorites. Other favorites included the 2002 Tata Open Champion Mukesh Kumar and 2004 Tata Open Champion Ashok Kumar. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play championship with cut applied after 36 holes. Thereafter, the top 50 players and ties played over the weekend.
