Buddha Jayanti Park is a beautiful well manicured garden with sprawling lawns and blooming flowers. Though relatively new in the list of parks in Delhi, it is quite popular amongst Delhites and tourists alike. This garden was built to commemorate the 2500 year of Lord Buddha’s attainment of Nirvana. The significance of the garden lies in the fact that sapling of the original Bodhi tree (under which Buddha attained Nirvana) has been brought all the way from Sri Lanka and transplanted here. Emperor Asoka’s daughter Sanghamitra took a sapling from the original Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya and went to Sri Lanka to preach Buddhism. Check out the beautiful idol of Buddha that lies at one corner of the park. Buddha Garden Delhi features as one of the most coveted Tourist attractions in New Delhi.

Buddha Jayanti Park is a hotspot for young couples too. Buddha Jayanti or Buddha Purnima is celebrated each may here with great aplomb. This park was dedicated to the 14th Dalai Lama in 1993.
