On your way to Sabrimala, you shall find the exquisite tourist locale named Pamba. Since it is a place where you will see the confluence of the three rivers it can also be called a riverside Paradise. Lying in the district of Pathanamthitta, Pamba is endowed with celestial beauty and is a major center for the forest activities.
History of Pamba:
The major attraction in the district of Pamba is the training session of the elephants. It is done usually by the help of the Koni elephant Kraal that trains the wild animals of the jungle. In the month of December approximately 30 lakhs devotees crowd to Sabrimala, in order to witness the Makaravailakku, and a lamp is said to be lighted in order to please Lord Ayyappan.
This has almost become a business for the base camp of Sabrimala, Pamba. It is gradually converting itself into a commercial hub. The shops at Pamba have everything that one may need to worship the Lord Ayyappan. Utensils, clothes, food, jewelry etc are all available. Traders also need to pay a hefty sum to the Dewaswom; and the amount needed to set up a shop at Pamba is anything between 2 lakh and 18 lakhs.
Description of Pamba:
Pamba is also known as Triveni Sangam, Triveni in Hindi means three, since Pamba is the confluence of the three rivers it is also known as Triveni. Sangam in Hindi indicates confluence. Since at Pamba three rivers merge to produce one single river, it is regarded as a sacred spot by the tourists and the Indians as well.
With its exclusive greenery and the religious place nearby, Pamba enjoys a swarming session all round the year. But at December one cannot find an empty place here. It is so jam-packed, because the Lord Ayyappan is worshipped at this time, tourists and pilgrims from all over the world come here to pay homage to the Lord and so the place wears the color of the Ayyappan Carnival.
