Bhubaneshwar falls on the Calcutta-Chennai line and most of the trains stop here. If you plan to travel to Puri from Calcutta, the Coromandel Express is the most viable option for you. You can also board the Puri bound train that leaves from the Howrah station.
You can also choose to travel to Puri by road. A commendable network of roads connects Puri to almost all the major towns and cities within the state as well as the neighboring states. The most cost effective way of reaching Puri from Bhubaneshwar is by boarding the Canter minibuses that leaves right from the center of the town.
