Alwar, the princely state of Rajasthan that has risen out of the jagged rocks of the Aravalli range in the eastern side of the state came up only in the late 18th century when the Mughal Empire was declining. The ancient state of the Rajputs, nestling among the cluster of the Aravalli range is the beautiful city of Alwar, whispering tales of valor and treachery and effusing in the desert air the rich cultural heritage it encapsulates. The city, though a bustling industrial town today, holds many other attractions other than the beautiful monuments like the City Palace, Bala Quila and Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri. Excursions from Alwar will take you to other enchanting places near the city.

Jaisamand Sanctuary

About 50 kms south of Udaipur lies the Jaisamand Santuary. It was established in the year 1957 and covers an area of 160 sq. kms. Located beside an artificial lake and surrounded by the verdant valleys and hills the sanctuary houses deer, wild boar, panther, four horned antelope, chital, chinkara and numerous avian species. Jaisamand Lake, popularly known as the Dhevar Lake has an island where the Bhill tribes of Rajasthan dwell.

Silserh Lake

Maharaja Vinay Singh in 1845 AD constructed Silserh Lake about 13 kms from Alwar city. Sprawled over an area of 7 sq. kms, this beautiful lake is adorned with domed cenotaphs.

Vijai Mandir Palace

Built by Maharaja Jai Singh, the Vijay Mandir Palace has a beautiful well-laid garden surrounding it and a serene lake in the foreground. This palace is located 10 kms away from the city and is one of the splendid palaces constructed by the Maharaja.
