History of Shrinathji Temple, Nathdwara:
According to historical records the image of Krishna or say Shrinathji that is enshrined at Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara was transported to Mewar to save it from demolition during the rule of Aurangazeb, the Moghul monarch. There is a very interesting fact associated with the location of this temple. It is said that the point where the chariot transporting the image got stuck there the temple was built with the approval of the then Rana of Mewar.
Description of Shrinathji Temple, Nathdwara:
The Nathdwara Shrinathji Temple enshrines that form of Krishna in which he raised the Govardhana hill to save the cow herds of Gokul from the hardship caused by the heavy downpour on the orders of Lord Indra, the king of Devas.
It is believed that initially the image was located in a humble shrine where Srinathji has manifested himself. However, later the lord image was shifted to the present Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara. It is a very big temple and swami Vallabhacharya had organized for the worship of the idol. After a passage of time this responsibility was put on the shoulders of his son namely Vittalesh Goswami.
It is also said that the Nathdwara Shrinathji Temple was visited by Taj Bibi, a wife of Akbar to offer prayers to the renowned image of the god Krishna that dates back to 12th century BC.
