Alappuzha district, formerly known as Alleppy, has always been and important maritime destination in Kerala. Now popular for its backwaters and beaches, Alappuzha beach is conveniently positioned at distance of 85 km from the Kochi Airport and 5 km from the Alappuzha station. The pier at the beach that juts out into the sea is about 140 years old. The Vijaya Beach Park with water sports facilities for adults and children is a recent addition to the already popular beach. Basking under the Keralian sun on the golden sand of the beach will catapult you far away from stress and strain. The boat races and the rice cultivation at Kuttanad below sea level is a must-see.
