Velliangiri Hill Temple Coimbatore

Representing five forms of the mighty Lord Shiva, Velliangiri hill temple or also known as Velliangiri Andavar temple, is one of the most important shrines in Tamil Nadu.  Darshan of the five ‘Lingams’ or faces of Lord Shiva can be done at the various renowned temples in India. What separates the Velliangiri cave temple is that it houses all the Lingams of Lord Shiva at one place.

Owing to this, one does not have to wander to different shrines and instead visit the Velliangiri Andavar temple. As a result, thousands of devotees from all over the country flock to this unique Lord Shiva temple.  Fascinating thing about the Velliangiri hill temple is that from some direction, the sacred hill of Velliangiri resembles the shape of a peacock. There is no clear road and instead of using a vehicle, pilgrims have to trek all the way to the sacred cave temple.

As one makes his way to the main shrine, he would be likely to come across two rocks on either side of the shrine. These rocks are traditionally known as Dwarakapalakas, whereas the hill is popular with the name of Thiruneer Malai.
