Banjhakri Falls

Banjhakri Falls is one of the most visited tourist spots in Gangtok. Set at a distance of 4 km from the town, this is one of the major tourist attractions in Gangtok and is best known for offering breathtaking sights and a pleasant ambiance. The star attraction of Gangtok waterfall is the footbridge built over the water stream and a dragon splash, which adds to the excitement and fun. You can visit Banjhakri Falls between 8 am to 6 pm. Start the day with a stroll in its peaceful environment and hear the soothing sounds of the flowing water. The entry fee for Banjhakri Falls is INR 50. If you carry a camera, you have to pay extra for photography.

Banjhakri Falls Legend 

There are many legends revolving around this waterfall. However, the most famous one depicts that The First Shaman, or Jhakri, possessed all the power to take over all the evil spirits from the Gods. He was also required to pinpoint the suitable boy to train in his forest cave. When the boy finishes training, he also becomes Jhakris and has some of the same power. Their wives, known as Jhakrinis, would eat up the Human beings.

The best time to visit the falls is between October and February as the weather remains comfortable and pleasant for the sightseeing tour and outdoor activities.

How to reach Banjhakri Falls Gangtok

This pristine waterfall is located around 6 km from Gangtok and can be reached by a local taxi. It will be a 30-minute drive. The Energy Park is located on the way to Ranka Village and you can also stop by the park and explore Ranka Monastery.
