Nathmal Ki Haveli in Jaisalmer

Located in the heart of Jaisalmer, Nathmal Ki Haveli is highly appreciated for its marvelous architecture and intricate carvings. Constructed by two Muslim brothers in the 19th century, the splendid Haveli served as the residence of the then Prime Minister of the city, Diwan Mohata Nathmal.

Being given a harmonious blend of Rajput and Muslim styles of architecture, the imposing structure of Nathmal Ki Haveli brilliantly adds to the glory and grandeur of Jaisalmer. As one enters the Haveli, the giant forms of two elephants are likely to catch his fancy. These two structures are made of yellow sandstone and placed right at the entrance.

The imagination of the architects of this tower can be best understood through the numerous paintings on display on the walls. Besides, its fantastic architecture also speaks highly of images of horses, cattle, and other animals, which are beautifully carved on the walls and pillars of the mansion.

Nathmal ki Haveli History

The Nathmal ki Haveli was constructed in 1885 and was given that name by Mohata Nathmal's brothers Lulu and Hathi. It is thought that both brothers began work on the Haveli simultaneously but independently. They started by dividing the space into two sections.

However, they created an irregular, one-of-a-kind structure because they lacked the tools to keep an eye on symmetry and continuity. Thus, even though both haveli components are identical, they are not comparable. However, the Haveli still ranks among the most admired buildings in Jaisalmer and has superb craftsmanship and architecture.
