Sardar Government Museum, Jodhpur

For all the tourists who are looking for a detailed insight into the rich history and culture of Jodhpur, Sardar Government Museum should be one of their best reasons to travel to the city. Named after Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur, the Government Museum is located in the center of the Ummaid Bagh.

Built during the reign of Maharaja Ummaid Singh in 1909, the ancient museum encompasses a wide collection of textiles, stone sculptures, miniature portraits, weapons and local arts and crafts. Besides the splendid range of collectibles, the museum also displays images and manuscripts of popular Jain Tirthankaras.

Even after surviving a century, the architecture of the museum feels charmingly frozen back in the past. This brilliance in the museum’s design was infused by a reputed Edwardian architect.  The interiors of the museum are divided into different sections, which apart from the usual antiques from the past of Jodhpur also house military plane models and battleships. Owing to such a description and collection, the Sardar Government Museum is noted as one of the most popular attractions in Jodhpur.
