Kottancheri Hills in Kasargod are stunning hill locales of Kerala. It is situated in the heart of the rainforest, about 30 km northeast drive from Kanhangad. The picturesque site resembles much of the scenic beauty of Kodaikanal.

The beautiful rainforest of the Kottancheri Hills is a part of the Western Ghats in the Kasaragod district. The forest landscape extends to the Ranipuram wildlife sanctuary. The picnic center here is the major draw among travelers. Nature lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and anyone seeking to get away from the crowds of cities are welcome here.

Kottancheri Hills is situated near the Talakaveri (the place that is considered to be the source of the river Kaveri and a holy place for many Hindus) in the Brahmagiri mountain range of Kodaku. Wildlife thrives in the Shola forests, grasslands, spice plantations, and monsoon forests. The hills merge with the forests of Kasaragod. The rainforests are endowed with great natural beauty and are ideal for trekking. Wild elephants, wild dogs, deer, wild pigs, rare birds, and butterflies are abundant here.

To embark on trekking, one needs to take permission from the Forest Department. It is advisable to go in groups with a forest guard or a local for your safety.

How to Reach

The place is two hours journey from the Kasaragod district. The location is about 50 km away from Kasargod. By air, the Mangaluru International Airport is the closest (60 km).

Best Time to Visit

Time duration from December to February is the best time to visit. Accommodation is not a problem at all as privately owned hotels and resorts are located at various points, as one goes up to Kottancheri.
