Also known as the new palace, The Maharaja’s palace was built in 1888 on the designs of a British architect, Mant. In the palace, one can witness a blend of Rajasthani, Gujarati and Jain style architecture. With its beautiful gardens, lake, museum and zoo, the palace assures all with a great experience.
The palace has a great collection of possessions of Chhatrapaties of Kolhapur including their costumes, weapons, games, jewellery. There are many other artifacts which make you have a glimpse of ancient royal culture and lifestyle. The Shahji Chhatrapati Museum has one of Aurangzeb’s swords. The museum has one section that is home to stuffed tigers, tiger heads, wild dog, sloth bear, lion, Black Panther, wild boar, black buck, deers and Himalayan Black Bear.
