Halcyon Castle is often known as Kovalam Palace too. It was built in 1932, by M.R. Sri Rama Varma Valiya Koil Thampuran. Sri Rama wanted to build a summer retreat for him and his family. Traditional architecture along with expansive lawns emerged as highlights of the palace. In 1964, the owner sold it to Kerala Government and it was eventually turned into a hotel. Years later, it was sold to a private resort group. Over the years, there have been different owners of Halcyon. And today, it is a popular attraction of Kovalam.
