Holy Places in Madhya Pradesh

The ever-famed Khajuraho Group of Monuments is located in Madhya Pradesh. These temples represent Nagara style of architecture and have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its erotic sculptures are another reason behind its popularity. Some of the priceless assets of Madhya Pradesh are its history, heritage and temples. Other than Khajuraho, Orchha too is home to some of the most ancient and legendary temples of India. Chaturbhuj Temple of Orchha is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and was constructed by Bundela Rajputs. Ram Raja Temple is another prime attraction of Orchha; it has a deity of Lord Ram sitting in Padmasan (posture) with a sword.

Madhya Pradesh has two temples which are amongst the twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva; Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga and Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga. Ghats of Chitrakoot and Temple at Narmada Kund too deserve a special mention when we are talking about holy places of Madhya Pradesh. Besides temples, mosque like Taj-ul-Masjid emerged as a Mughal master-piece. The mosque was built by Bahadur Shah Zafar and it took several years to complete its construction; all the hardship put over the years resulted in a beautiful outcome. The state is home to plenty of holy shrines, all of which make it a paradise for the pilgrims and heritage lovers.
