Connecting the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India is the Pamban Bridge; a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait (narrow stretch of water between Tamil Nadu and the Mannar district, which is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka).Started around 1914, Pamban Bridge was the first and longest sea bridge in India till 2010. The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge.
