History of George Castle

The George Castle was built by Jiwaji Rao Scindhia. There is a very amazing story associated with the construction of the George Castle. In the year 1911, King George V came to India from England. On that trip he was supposed to pass through this area. Being interested in Tiger shooting he would halt for a night at this place. Jiwaji Rao ordered the construction of this castle so that he could reside here overnight. Unfortunately, the visitor shot a tiger on the way itself and there was no need for him to reside at this castle which was constructed only to entertain him.

Description of George Castle :

The George Castle is indeed very grand. There are several turrets in the Shivpuri, George Castle . The best time to visit the George Castle is at dusk. From these turrets one gets excellent view of the Sakhya Sagar Lake. The color of the water continually keeps changing at sunset. It reflects the color of the sky which displays various hues at this time. The surrounding forests are also to be seen in all their beauty from here.

How to reach George Castle Shivpuri :

Shivpuri is well connected by bus to most of the important places in Madhya Pradesh. The nearest airport is Gwalior. There is a railway station at Shivpuri, but for those who want to avail the rail route Gwalior is definitely a better option because it is far better connected to various parts of India by train. From Gwalior, buses ply at regular intervals and reaching Shivpuri is no problem.
