Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located at Kanyakumari where the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal merge with the great Indian Ocean. The Vivekananda Rock has been dedicated to the Indian Philosopher Vivekananda who had spent his days trying to awake the Indians from their state of stupor. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial was constructed in the year 1970 and the unique blend of architectural style of India is conspicuous in the Memorial erected in the rock.

A bold and unique statue stands inside the huge hall and this is also the prayer room. People leave their shoes outside and go with a pure heart to the meditation Hall and pray with their eyes closed in front of the colossal statue. Perhaps the divine soul of this great philosopher rests somewhere inside the magnificent hall. To the south east direction lies the Kumari Amman Temple.

Standing on one of these rocks one can get a splendid view of the tapering end of India. The footprints of the virgin Goddess, Parvati, are manifest to us in the from these rock structures.
