Trekking at Thekkady

Thekkady in Kerala is a lush mountainous town nestled in the midst of Western Ghats. The lush rolling hills and mountains neighboring Thekkady offers thrilling opportunities of trekking to the adventure enthusiasts. The vast stretch of Western Ghats in its prime beauty is available for the trekkers.

Trekking in groups with guides and an armed forest guard are organized by the Kerala Forest Department. To set out on trekking expeditions it is necessary to have permission from forest department. No solo person or group is allowed without the required authorities. The abundance of wildlife makes this absolutely necessary as the safety of humans and animals is ensured.

Kurisamala to Kumily and Kumily to Pandikuzhi are some of the most favorite trekking routs and Pullumedu, Kurisumala, Ottakathalamedu and Grampi are noteworthy trekking bases in this area.These exciting trekking route passes through rolling verdant terrains. Altitudes ranges from 900 meters to 1300 meters. Trekkers will enjoy the emerald greenery as far as the eye can see. Swift rivulets and small lakes can also be viewed in the area. Gaur, sloth bear, elephant, etc. are often sighted along this route apart from myriad varieties of birds and butterflies.
