Ponmudi is an unspoiled hill-station in Thiruvananthapuram, having a thick carpet of forest rolling down to the foothills. And to add on more charm, tea gardens are located in the locale. The town is a treasure for nature-lovers and adventure enthusiasts who like to partake in activities like mountaineering, rock climbing and trekking. A number of rivulets babble across Ponmudi, which are home to numerous species of fish and other aquatic creatures. Surely, the area has rich biodiversity and the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction of the area; along with Golden Valley, Deer Park, Menmutty Falls and Echo Point. One of the highest peaks of Western Ghats, Agasthyarkoodam is also located here, which is acclaimed for its wilderness. To trek around the peak, one needs permissions from the Forest Department. This serene hill town is placed at an altitude of 1100 m above the sea level and is around 61 km eastwards of Thiruvananthapuram.
