Located at a distance of 32 km from Chalakudy, 59 km from Thrissur and 73 km from Kochi, Athirapally Waterfall is one of the best and most popular waterfalls in India. Also counted as one of the most famous tourist attractions in Kerala and one of the popular weekend getaways from Kochi, Coimbatore and Munnar, these waterfalls are charmers. Placed on the entrance to the Sholayar hill ranges, these lovely waterfalls are on River Chalakudy.
Athirapally waterfalls cascade down from a height of 80 feet gushing through varied parallel waters streams, forming a lovely view. Known to be the ‘Niagara Falls of India’, these falls become fuller and even more amazing during the monsoon months. The biggest waterfalls in the Kerala state boast of breathtaking surroundings.
As you enter the falls, a 15-minute walk takes you to the top of the Athirapally waterfalls from where you can treat your eyes to the picturesque views of the lush surrounding areas. As you start your descending trek from the top and reach the bottom, another beautiful sight awaits. If you like swimming, it can done in the stream at the bottom. This stream continues in the form of River Chalakudy that later merges in the Arabian Sea.
