Overview

The Jyotirlingas is one of the revered and significant shrines in Hinduism dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the most respected gods in Hindu mythology. Lord Shiva is considered to be the Mahadev (the supreme God) and a Jyotirlinga is the manifestation of the Lord himself. It is believed that the Jyotirlingas are not man-made and each Jyotirlinga is Swayambhu (self-manifested). Jyotirlinga means "lingam of light".
