6 Days Assam Meghalaya Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati
Welcome to Northeast India! Your tour will begin once you arrive at the Guwahati airport or railway station. Indian Holiday's representative will meet you and you will be transferred to your hotel in Guwahati. Check-in and unwind. Freshen up and have an appetizing lunch. In the evening, enjoy the sunset cruise sailing on the mighty Brahmaputra River at 4.30 pm. Enjoy the evening and afterward, return to the hotel for a comfortable sleep.
Day 2: Guwahati - Shillong
Post a hearty meal, check out from the hotel. Today, you will be transferred from Guwahati to Shillong via scenic roads. Enjoy this 2 to 3 hours drive. Stop by Umiam Lake, one of the largest manmade lakes in India. Witness the green hills and pastures around the lake that make it a scenic spot for photography enthusiasts.
You will also visit Don Bosco Museum, where you will learn more about the culture, local people, and traditions. Once reached, check in at the hotel and rest for a while. As the sun goes down, stroll around the Police Bazaar and treat your tastebuds to local snacks. Come back to the hotel afterward for a restful sleep.
Day 3: Shillong - Dawki
On day 3 of your Assam Meghalaya tour, wake up to the beautiful views of Khasi Hills and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Check out and proceed from Shillong to Dawki (2 to 3 hours). One of the most picturesque places in India, Dawki is known for its crystal clear Umngot River. Enjoy a river cruise in a country boat and later visit Mawlynnong. It is Asia's cleanest village and a huge attraction in India. Walkthrough the lush villages and get a glimpse of local life.
After the tour, drive off to Cherrapunji from Mawlynnong (2 to 3 hours). Check-in at a nature resort and spend the night here.
Day 4: Cherrapunji
Wake up in the 'second wettest place in the world' and have breakfast. Today will be an adventurous day as you will visit the Living Root Bridges and Double Decker Root Bridge. For this, cross the rivers through the hanging bridges, and after trekking for almost 3 hours, you will reach the root bridges.
Witness the unparalleled beauty of the Khasi Hills and click pictures here. They are handmade bridges by the local Khasi and Jaintia people. Also, you can take a dip in the cold water of the natural streams. After an amazing experience, return to the hotel and hop onto the bed for sound sleep.
Note: The trek to reach root bridges is not easy. It has around 3500 steps (one way) and thus, is not advised for people with joint issues, asthma, or arthritis problems. Pregnant women are also not advised to take this trek.
Day 5: Cherrapunji - Shillong
Post breakfast, check out and proceed for more sightseeing. Visit Arwah Cave, which is an unexplored location in Northeast India. Follow the jungle trail and enjoy the soothing sounds of nature. Feel the fresh mountain air and relax your mind.
Continue your drive to Shillong. On the way, halt at a viewpoint and witness stunning views of the Wahkaba Falls. Visit the Seven Sister Falls and the Nohkalikai Falls. Once reached Shillong, check in and spend a comfortable overnight at the hotel.
Optional: Ziplining at Mawkdok Valley.
Day 6: Departure from Guwahati
Your Assam Meghalaya tour package ends today. After a leisurely breakfast, check out and get transferred to Guwahati airport or railway station. Go back home with cherishable memories and stories to share.
