Attractions in Paonta Sahib
Gurudwara Paonta Sahib
A known heritage and religious centre of the Sikhs, it is believed that the Gurudwara Paonta Sahib was the very place where Guru Gobind Singh (the 10th Sikh Guru and the founder of the Gurudwara) had stayed for four years and had written a major chunk of the ‘Book of the Tenth Emperor’ or the Dassam Granth, an important Sikh scripture. The Gurudwara complex consists of Sri Talab Asthan-salary distribution site of the Guru and a museum-consisting his weapons.
Assan Lake
Just 4 km from Paonta Sahib, Assan Lake is a beautiful lake, which is quite popular as a picnic spot among the locals as well as the tourists. The site is taken care of by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department. One can indulge in water sports and other adventure activities such as sail boating, rowing, speed boating, paddling, hovercraft rides and water skiing.
Dei KaMandir
Constructed by the sister of the erstwhile King of Sirmaur, Dei-Ka-Mandir is a popular religious spot of the area. This temple dedicated to Lord Rama who is the family god of the Suryavanshi rulers of Sirmaur.
Khodra Dak Pathar
Around 25 km from Paonta Sahib, Khodra Dak Pathar is a very well-known tourist destination, which boasts of lush surroundings, pleasant climate, serene ambiance, a well-manicured park etc. Visit this place and unwind completely by the artificial lake, developed from the water of Yamuna River. Chhibran power house, placed underground, is another attraction, located nearby.
Sahstra Dhara
A harmonious site, Sahstra Dhara is the confluence point of River Yamuna and River Tong, which is also called River Tamsa. Closely placed is the Laksi village that is the erstwhile capital the Sirmour district, 25 km away from the Paonta Sahib. The Ashok Rock Edict is the main tourist attraction here.
Gurudwara Bhangani Sahib
Located at a distance of 23 km from the Paonta Sahib, Gurudwara Bhangani Sahib is a famous tourist attraction. This Gurudwara is known for holding a historical importance as the site where the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, in the year 1686 had fought his first battle against Raja Fateh Sahib. He has only 20 years old at that time.
Shiva Temple
Just 4.5 km from Paonta Sahib, Shiva temple is a well-known temple in Patlian. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this ancient temple is bounded by verdant green paddy fields and Sal trees, adding a character to the area. The local people believe that the Shiva Lingam has increased in size over the years.
