Sanjay Gandhi National Park Happenings

The Government shouldered the responsibility to save the rare animals from the fatal encroachment, so National Parks have been constructed and the poachers are not allowed inside. Since, it is the property of the Government, one need to strictly follow the rules and regulations of the National Park, and even killing of birds and harming any animals is considered as a punishable offence. This is one of the important happenings in Borivali National Park.

In June 2004, there was the demise of about 20 people, in the fatal encounter with the leopards. Again in the year 1970, there was a proposal to construct a road through the National Park. But this was violently opposed by the Naturalist Humayun Ali. So, ultimately the road never came to existence.

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park is also known as the Krishnagiri National Park. To venerate Sanjay Gandhi, son of Indira Gandhi, who died in a plane crash, this National Park was renamed as Sanjay Gandhi National Park. A Park Boundary has been constructed so that the park protection is complete and no poacher is able to create a nuisance.
