Dilwara Jain Temple

There are a number of tourist places in the state of Rajasthan. Though this desert state of India experiences a high tourist fall through out the year but it decreases comparatively during the summer. The sweltering heat in this region often proves unbearable for the tourists. However, there is one place in Rajasthan that provides a respite from this scorching heat. Mount Abu in Rajasthan is the perfect place to avoid the scorching heat. The place not only offers a pleasant weather but also offers a variety of tourist attractions. Among the various Rajasthan Tourist Attractions, the temples in Mount Abu bear a special significance. The beautiful architecture of the temples along with a great religious significance make these temples a sought after attraction, both for tourists as well as devotees. The Dilwara temple in Mount Abu is a perfect example of unique creation and is one of the most important Jain temples. The temple is also a beautiful structure that epitomizes Indian architecture.

The Dilwara temple in Mount Abu dates back to 13th century. It was built in a period between 11th and 13th century. The temple is two and a half kilometers away from Mount Abu and is an architectural brilliance. The beautiful marble works at the temple are a treat to the eye.

Attractions of Dilwara temple

The Dilwara temple consists of 5 temples in total. Each of the temples has its own unique identity and thus offers a lot of attraction for the tourists. Let's have detailed look at each of these temples:

Vimal Vasahi (Shri Adi Nathji temple): Built in 1021 AD, this temple was built by Vimal Shah. The temple is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara named Adi Nath. These temples posses a number of smaller idols of Jain Tirthankara and bears the name Adinath. By visiting this temple, you will also get to see the collection of nine rectangular designs called Navchowki. The beautiful design in the ceilings of the temple is also a great sight for the tourists.

Luna Vasahi (Shri Nemi Nathji temple): This temple is also a worthy visit for the tourists. Dedicated to the 22nd Tirthankara Shri Nemi Nathji, the temple has history behind it. Two brothers, Vastupal and Tejpal built the temple. They dedicated the temple to their dead brother Luna. Such a historical significance of the temple makes it a great attraction for tourists.

Mahaveer Swami (Shri Mahaveer Swamiji temple): This temple is smaller in comparison to the other shrines of the Dilwara temple. It was built in honor of Lord Mahaveer, the 24th Jain Tirthankara. The beautiful structure was built in 1582 A.D.

Khartar Vasahi (Shri Parshav Nathji temple): This temple is dedicated to Lord Parshavnath. It also has rich history as it dates back to the 1458-59 A.D. Constructed by Mandlik, the three storied building offers a wonderful sight. The temple is also the highest among the shrines in Dilwara.

Pithalhar (Shri Rishabh Deoji temple): The prime attraction of this temple is the colossal metal statue of Rishab Dev (Adinath). The beauty of the metal statue mesmerizes the visitors. Moreover, the metal is made of five different elements but the main elements used in the metal are pital or brass. The temple also has Gudh mandap, Garbhagraha and Navchowki.
