There are two types of travellers: one who wants a relaxation break during a vacation. The second type is ”ME and YOU”, who want to enjoy each moment of a vacation full of zeal.
That was the time when my friends and I went on a long weekend Kerala trip. And after covering the most famous attractions, I still wanted to see more. But we had only 24 hours left, My friends were saying, “What can we even do in one day? We need at least two days to explore properly.”
But I took their suggestion as a challenge and decided to make the most of the remaining time. The nearest destination to us was Munnar, and I decided to head there.
I contacted my guide from Indian Holiday, and they arranged everything for us. Soon, we set off towards Munnar.
We reached Munnar by 4 AM. By evening, I had explored some of the famous places in Munnar. During this exploration, I realised that it’s true that 24 hours is not enough to explore any destination entirely, but I proved it’s possible if you have proper planning and a good guide. After the trip, I was happy because I had used every bit of time on my Kerala trip.
If you are planning a trip to Munnar and have just 24 hours, this write-up is perfect for you. No one can better guide you on spending a day in Munnar and exploring as many attractions as possible.

24 Hours Guide: A Picture Perfect Day in Munnar
a) Early Morning: Arrival in Munnar
We reached early in the morning and started our trek toward Anamudi Peak. During the trek, we passed through beautiful tea plantations offering breathtaking views. But I suggest you don’t spend too much time on the way because you don’t want to miss the stunning sunrise from the top. Oh, I’ve already given away the surprise!
As we reached the top, the sun was rising. The mesmerising view reminded me of a similar sunrise I had once witnessed in Kashmir. The sun’s golden rays pierced the darkness, creating a magical atmosphere. And as the sun threw light on Munnar, the landscape gave us an absolutely stunning view.
We began our day with a cup of coffee, and let me tell you, it was one of the most authentic and flavorful coffees I’ve ever had. After that, we had a hearty breakfast of local delicacies like Appam with stew and Puttu & Kadala Curry. Once we finished breakfast, we set off to explore other attractions.
b) Morning Exploration
Eravikulam National Park
Our journey to Eravikulam National Park was just as beautiful, with lush green tea plantations and hills adding charm to the trip. Once at the park, we spotted unique wildlife thriving in their natural habitat, including the Nilgiri Tahr, Nilgiri Langur, Lion-tailed Macaque, and Gaur.
If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, this destination is a must-visit. The experience here is distinct from other parks, as the hill station setting adds a unique charm. From the park, you also get a clear view of Anamudi Peak, making it an unforgettable experience.
Nayamakad Waterfall
Near the park, we visited Nayamakad Waterfall, which is one of my favourite spots. I clicked a lot of photos there. It’s the perfect place if you’re planning a picnic in Munnar. You can bring your kids and parents here to spend some quality time together.
c) Midday Exploration
Mattupetty Dam
Then we headed towards Mattupetty Dam. After reaching there, we enjoyed the surroundings, and nearby, there was Mattupetty Lake, where we all enjoyed several water activities. Boating was my favourite. After that, we had our lunch.
If you ever visit Munnar, make sure to visit this dam. The surroundings of the dam are stunning.
Then, our guide told us that there was an Echo Point nearby. Would we like to go there? Well, is there any place where we wouldn’t know about it and not visit? No, right? So, we all set out for Echo Point.
Echo Point
After reaching Echo Point, the guide shared an interesting fact:
Echo Point is the same place you might have seen in the movie Ready, where Salman Khan calls out the name Sanjana, and the echo repeats “Sanjana” back. Do you remember? Yes, that’s Echo Point! So, when you’re here, make sure to experience this amazing phenomenon.
Kundala Lake
After Echo Point, we headed to Kundala Lake. We clicked some photos here, but since we were running short on time, we left for Kannan Devan Hills near Munnar.
I had heard that Neelakurinji flowers bloom here, which only happens once every 12 years. So, we went to see them, but unfortunately, when we arrived, we found out that the flowers hadn’t bloomed yet. They will bloom in 2030. Although you can see some flowers here, in 2030, the whole area will be covered with these flowers.
d) Evening Exploration
Top Station
After taking some photos, we headed toward Top Station because it was getting dark, and we wanted to catch the sunset. After arriving here, we snapped a few photos and headed back to the hotel.
On the way back, we had an authentic Kerala dinner. We reached the hotel and were happy because we had explored most of Munnar in just one day.
Although Munnar is a place where we would love to stay longer, due to time constraints, we couldn’t. Nevertheless, we will come back to Munnar again to explore its famous attractions and hidden gems in more depth.
All in all, our one-day trip to Munnar was memorable.
